Behind the Cosmic Curtain

How the Stars
Actually Work
Around Here

Every score, signal panel, shadow note, and cosmic verdict your horoscope produces is generated fresh for your specific combination of signs and mood. Here is what it all means and why it is built this way.

Try the horoscope

Most horoscope sites give you the same twelve paragraphs every day for every Libra on the planet. You have seen them. "Today brings unexpected opportunities." "Trust your intuition." "Be open to new connections." It sounds specific. It is not. It is wallpaper dressed up as wisdom.

The QuizMe horoscope works differently. When you submit your sun sign, moon sign, rising sign, focus area, and mood, the reading is built around that exact combination, drawing on real-time planetary weather for today's date and the specific energetic patterns that your sign combination activates. Two Libras who are both stressed but one is focused on career and the other on love will get completely different readings. That is the point.

This guide explains every element you see in your results: what the signal panels are, what the scores actually measure, why the shadow note exists, how the cosmic verdict is chosen, and what the planetary weather data in the hero panel is actually sourcing. No mysteries, no mysticism dressed as methodology.

The Five Inputs, and Why All Five Matter

The reading is only as sharp as what you put into it. Here is what each input does to the output.

Sun Sign

Your sun sign is the only required field because it is the primary astrological lens. In Western tropical astrology, your sun sign is determined by where the sun was in the ecliptic at the moment of your birth, divided into twelve 30-degree segments. It represents ego, core identity, and the qualities you lead with consciously. It anchors the reading's general personality assumptions, the themes it reaches for when describing your energy, and the specific planetary relationships relevant to your chart position today.

Moon Sign

Your moon sign changes every two to three days (it moves fast through the zodiac), so two people born a week apart can have completely different moon signs even if they share a sun sign. The moon governs emotional instinct, subconscious patterns, and how you process feelings before your rational mind catches up. Adding your moon sign shifts the reading's emotional register substantially. A Libra sun with a Scorpio moon gets a very different emotional texture than a Libra sun with a Gemini moon. Don't know yours? Use the on-page Moon Calculator powered by Jean Meeus's astronomical algorithms, accurate to within half a degree.

Rising Sign (Ascendant)

Your rising sign is the zodiac sign that was cresting the eastern horizon at your exact moment and location of birth. It governs first impressions, your physical presentation, and the way circumstances tend to unfold around you. It requires knowing your birth time and location, which is why it is optional and why we built the on-page calculator with GPS and city search. Adding your rising sign pulls the reading toward your experience of the external world rather than purely your internal one.

Focus Area

You choose one: Love and Connection, Career and Money, Energy and Wellness, or Wildcard. This does not restrict what appears in every panel, but it does shift the weighting. If you choose Career, the career panel will be more specific, more direct, and more likely to name concrete actions. The other panels still appear, but the focus area tells the reading where you actually want the signal to be strongest.

Mood

Mood changes the tone more than people expect. Someone who selects "Anxious" gets a reading that acknowledges restlessness and offers grounding rather than hype. Someone who selects "Energized" gets one that matches that charge and directs it. The reading is built to honour your current state, not override it with false optimism. Mood is the most underrated input.

The Four Signal Panels Explained

Your reading arrives as four numbered signal panels. Each one covers a different domain of your day. Here is exactly what lives in each column of each panel.

01
☀️
OVERVIEW — The General Reading
The broad energetic picture for your day. This panel accounts for the current planetary weather (moon phase, planetary positions, retrograde status) alongside your sun sign's typical themes. It sets the frame that the other three panels build within.
02
💝
LOVE & CONNECTION
Relationships, attraction dynamics, existing partnerships, friendships, and social energy. This panel draws on Venus's current position, your moon sign's emotional profile, and the love-relevant themes that your sign combination tends to activate.
03
💼
CAREER & MONEY
Ambition, workplace dynamics, financial decisions, and creative output. Mercury (communication, logic, contracts) and Mars (drive, assertion) are the planets most weighted here. Mercury retrograde periods produce notably different career guidance.
04
ENERGY & WELLNESS
Physical vitality, mental stamina, nervous system state, and recovery needs. The moon phase carries the most weight here: waning phases lean toward depletion and restoration, waxing phases toward building. Your mood input feeds directly into this panel's framing.

The Right Column: What Those Stats Actually Are

Each panel has a data column on the right with a named status, a keyword, and a percentage score. These are not decorative. Here is what each one means.

Panel Data Field Reference
Status Label (e.g. "HIGH", "ELEVATED", "CHARGED")
Cosmic Pressure / Risk Level / Connection / Energy Level
A qualitative summary of the energetic intensity in that domain today. "HIGH" cosmic pressure means the planets are loud about your sun sign's themes. "DEPLETED" energy means today is not the day to sprint.
HIGH
Key Planet
The ruling body most active in your domain today
Each panel names the planet most relevant to its domain right now. This is sourced from the planetary weather algorithm, not invented. Venus governs love and values, Mercury governs communication, Mars governs action and drive, the Moon governs emotion and cycles.
VENUS ♀
Percentage Score (Alignment / Clarity / Opportunity / etc.)
A synthesised intensity reading for that domain
Each score is a 0-100 expression of how aligned, clear, or favourable the energetic conditions are in that domain for your specific sign combination. It is not a random number. A 90% Opportunity Score in Career means the signals are stacking in your favour today. A 42% Energy Score means pace yourself.
90%

The Shadow Note: Uncomfortable on Purpose

Beneath the four panels, every reading includes a shadow note. It is the thing you were maybe hoping you wouldn't have to look at.

The shadow note draws from the Jungian concept of the psychological shadow: the parts of ourselves we would rather not acknowledge, the patterns that keep recurring because we have not examined them, the blind spots that other people probably notice before we do. In an astrological context, this is the reading's "yes, but" moment.

"The shadow note is the one piece of the reading the AI is specifically instructed never to soften. It has to feel earned. It cannot be vague. It has to name something real."

The shadow note has strict rules: no hedging, no generic statements, no packaging the discomfort in such soft language that it lands as a compliment. If your Scorpio-moon placement tends toward emotional withholding and today's planetary weather is activating that pattern, the shadow note will say so directly. Not cruelly, but clearly.

You are free to disagree with it. But it is worth sitting with before you dismiss it.

The Cosmic Verdict: Your One Sentence

The cosmic verdict is the large typewriter-animated headline that appears at the top of your results. It is capped at 20 words and is designed to be shareable, memorable, and specific enough to actually mean something about your day.

It is not the summary of the reading. It is the sharpest single insight from it. Think of it as the thing you would screenshot and send to a friend who asked "so what does your horoscope say today?" It needs to land in one read, make sense without context, and still be accurate to your specific sign combination.

The verdict cannot be purely optimistic, purely negative, or so abstract it could apply to anyone. "You are exactly where you need to be" is not a cosmic verdict. It is a greeting card. A real verdict sounds more like "Your charm is peak, your patience is not, pick your battles today."

The Lucky Strip and What It Is Actually Doing

Below the signal panels you will find your lucky numbers, a colour swatch, and a power word for the day. These are not arbitrary. Here is the logic behind each one.

🔢
Lucky Numbers
Derived from a deterministic algorithm seeded by your sign combination and today's date. The same combination always produces the same numbers on the same day, but they differ across sign combos and across days. They are consistent, not random.
🎨
Today's Colour
Each sign has a set of colour associations drawn from traditional astrological colour correspondence. Today's colour is selected by combining your sun sign's palette with the day's numerical seed. The hex value displayed is real and glows with your colour's value.
Power Word
A single directive drawn from a sign-specific vocabulary set, seeded by date. It changes daily and is chosen to align with your sun sign's core archetype. A Leo's power word will trend toward performance and courage themes; a Virgo's toward discernment and precision.
🌙
Moon Phase Card
Shows the current moon phase name, its emoji representation, and the energetic quality associated with it. New moon phases favour beginnings and intention-setting; waxing favours building; full moons amplify everything (including tension); waning favours release and reflection.

The Planetary Weather Panel: What It Is Sourcing

In the hero section, before you even enter your signs, you see a live data panel showing today's moon phase, planetary weather, a power word, and a colour swatch. This is not part of your personalised reading. It is computed directly from the date using fixed astronomical and astrological reference data, so every visitor sees the same planetary weather on the same day.

The planetary weather entry names two planets in dynamic tension or alignment today, describes the nature of that interaction (trine, square, opposition, conjunction), and flags any retrograde planets. Mercury retrograde, which happens three or four times per year for about three weeks each time, is flagged prominently because it consistently affects communication, contracts, and digital devices in ways that produce recognisable patterns.

On Retrograde Planets

When a planet is "retrograde," it appears to move backward through the sky from Earth's vantage point. It is not actually moving backward. It is an optical effect caused by the relative speeds of Earth and the planet in their orbits. Mercury retrograde is real as an astronomical phenomenon. Whether its effects on human experience are real is a question that depends on what framework you are using to evaluate reality. We are not here to settle that. We are here to give you the most useful possible reading within the astrological framework you chose to open.

Myths vs. What This Actually Is

Before you forward your reading to someone as evidence of anything, let's be honest about what this tool is and is not.

Myth

This is a generic horoscope generator that produces the same content for everyone.

Reality

Your reading is unique to your sign combination, mood, focus area, and today's date. Two different combinations on the same day produce different readings that are cached separately.

Myth

The AI makes up the planetary data to suit the reading.

Reality

Planetary weather, moon phase, and retrograde status are computed from the date using fixed astronomical algorithms. The AI receives this data as context and writes around it, not over it.

Myth

The percentage scores are randomly assigned for visual interest.

Reality

Each score is a coherent expression of the energetic intensity in that domain for your specific sign combination. They are consistent with the written content in each panel, not decorative.

Myth

You need to know all three signs for this to work.

Reality

Only your sun sign is required. Moon and rising add depth and specificity, but the reading runs meaningfully with sun sign alone. The on-page calculator computes moon and rising from your birth data if you want them.

Why It Refreshes at Midnight

Your reading is cached until midnight. This is intentional. Astrology is, at its core, a day-based system. The planetary positions shift, the moon moves, and the energetic context changes. Running the same sign combination fifty times in one day would produce the same reading fifty times anyway because the inputs haven't changed, but caching also means the site stays fast and the AI isn't called on every single page load.

When you return tomorrow, your combination generates a fresh reading because the date has changed. Same signs, different day, different result. That is the behaviour you want from a system that is supposed to be actually reactive to time.

6
Sections per reading (Overview, Love, Career, Energy, Shadow, Verdict) — each specific to your combination
1,728
Unique sign combinations possible (12 sun x 12 moon x 12 rising), each cached separately
00:00
Cache resets at midnight so readings stay reactive to the actual day

Sara's Hot Take: The Second Opinion

After your reading loads, Sara's Hot Take appears. It is shorter than the main reading, more opinionated, occasionally more alarming, and it always reacts to what your specific reading actually said rather than offering a generic gloss on your sign. If the reading told you to slow down and your Hot Take agrees but with significantly less diplomacy, that is intentional.

Sara reads everything. She has been sitting with personality frameworks, attachment theory, and astrological archetypes long enough to have opinions about your chart that go beyond what a structured four-panel reading can hold. The Hot Take is where those opinions land. It shows up slightly after the main reading because the timing matters: you need a moment with the signal panels before the commentary arrives, or it reads as interruption instead of insight. Think of it as the friend who waited until you finished reading before saying "okay but did you catch the part where it basically called you out."

On AI Horoscopes and Epistemic Honesty

This is a tool built within an astrological framework. Astrology is not a predictive science. It does not tell you what will happen. What it does, when built thoughtfully, is give you a structured way to reflect on your current state and the patterns in your life. The readings are designed to be useful for that purpose: specific enough to provoke real thought, honest enough to include the uncomfortable part, and focused enough to actually help you prioritise your day. Whether the planets caused it or not is a philosophical question. Whether the reflection is useful is a practical one.

How to Get the Most From Your Reading

A few things that actually change the quality of what you get.

Add your moon and rising signs. The difference between a sun-only reading and a full three-sign reading is substantial. If you don't know yours, calculate them in the on-page tool before submitting. It takes about 90 seconds and changes the reading meaningfully.

Be honest about your mood. The reading is calibrated to your current state. Selecting "Energized" when you're actually "Anxious" produces a reading that won't land. The system is not here to judge your mood. It is here to work with it.

Pick the focus area that's actually on your mind. Not the one you think you're supposed to care about, or the one that sounds most aspirational. The reading is most useful when it's pointed at the thing you're actually sitting with today.

Read the shadow note last. Most people scroll past it quickly. It is the part of the reading that is most likely to still be sitting with you at 9pm. Give it the thirty seconds it deserves before you decide it doesn't apply.
